Welcome to Lush Places
Updated: Apr 11, 2020
We have been writing about our lives at Lush Places for the New Zealand Listener since we left Auckland three years ago, and we have loved doing it.
But then, just over a week ago, Bauer Media shut down its entire New Zealand operation, with the loss of many fine magazines, including our beloved Listener. We, like so many other journalists, now find ourselves out of a job.
The Good Life column’s abrupt demise made us very sad. It also, in the midst of the Covid-19 lockdown, left us with nothing much to do — other than looking after 12 acres, a hundred sheep, four evil chickens and a fat cat.
A question drifted into our woolly heads: “why stop writing the column?”
The answer to that was: “why not keep writing it?” So we’ve created lushplaces.co.nz, a website risen from the ashes of the print industry in New Zealand.
We’ll carry on as usual: publishing a new column every Monday. We hope you're keen to read about what we do next. If nothing else, you can look at fetching pictures of cute animals, and what could be more intellectually fulfilling in the middle of a lockdown? (No kittens pictures; sorry. The ram is currently working on providing next season’s flock of lambs, though. Hooray!)
We have begun, too, to archive three year’s worth of words and pictures from the printed The Good Life.
We know we can’t replicate the touch and feel and depth of your favourite magazine. But we hope you’ll keep reading. If you do, let us know what you think at email@example.com.
And please, if you know of others who enjoyed — and will miss — The Good Life in the Listener spread the word.
Finally, we hope you and your families are safe and well at your places.
